The number of flights in territorial continuity between Sardinia and the Peninsula is increasing.
The announcement comes from the Sardinia region and following the presentation to the ministry and ENAC, by the Transport Department, of a detailed study on demand levels.
The data, in particular, show significant growth compared to those considered in the 2021 ministerial decree , in the midst of the Covid emergency, which is the basis for the sizing of minimum services. And the new flights will therefore be added in a structural manner, and no longer at the discretion of the carriers, on all routes in territorial continuity to and from Sardinia.
According to the department, "these increases will allow us to respond more effectively to the current demand. Among the main innovations, the request for a new schedule from Alghero to Milan Linate stands out, served by Ita Airways, which has been asked to significantly anticipate the first flight from Riviera del Corallo in order to allow passengers to make the most of the day, in addition to a delayed evening return. Increases are also planned on the routes between Alghero and Rome Fiumicino (always served by Ita Airways), between Cagliari and Linate/Fiumicino (Aeroitalia), and between Olbia and the two main national destinations (Aeroitalia/Volotea).
The increase in connections has already been communicated to the carriers, who will now have to adapt.
"For the first time - underlines the Transport Councillor Barbara Manca - we have asked the carriers to provide precise data on bookings, an element that we consider fundamental for proactive and effective planning . Precisely thanks to the request and obtaining of this data it is possible to have a more careful control and a more virtuous management of the territorial continuity tool. In the immediate future this has led to an adjustment of the offer in peak moments with the collaboration of the companies".
In the meantime, Aeroitalia announces in advance the addition of the first twenty-two additional flights during the Christmas period , to meet the growing demand for travel in one of the most popular periods of the year. These are twelve additional flights on the Milan Linate - Cagliari route and ten on the Rome Fiumicino - Cagliari route. Among these new frequencies, there are also 2 extraordinary flights on the Linate-Cagliari route for Friday 20 December and Saturday 21 December. The flights - the company specifies - "will be increased further" in the event that "the need for additional bookings arises".
