A painful decision, but one that can no longer be postponed. The teachers at Terralba's middle school will abstain from extracurricular activities.

"We will limit ourselves to what is provided for in the national collective bargaining agreement and will suspend any unpaid extra work," the 48 teachers wrote in a document sent to the Regional and Provincial School Offices, the Municipality, and the Region.

The protest, the first of its kind in Sardinia, aims to restore pay equity and dignity to the profession. Projects dedicated to teaching continuity and support for vulnerable students will be guaranteed, but teachers will refrain from field trips, educational outings, and all activities previously carried out solely thanks to their "volunteering," either unpaid or with paltry reimbursements in exchange for enormous civil and criminal liability (such as 24-hour supervision on field trips).
