The explosion was devastating. The Domus Beccias neighborhood had nearly suffered a massacre due to the fire, which, according to the Carabinieri, was deliberately started by the owner . An act that, two months later, cost him his life: yesterday, Aleandro Frau died at the Sassari Burns Center, where he had been hospitalized since May 17th, under arrest (the 39-year-old was charged with massacre).

It was a Sunday morning when a loud bang woke half the town. Around 8:00 a.m., a powerful explosion was heard: smoke and flames, shattered glass, and windows blown out on the first floor of a small house on Via Boccaccio. The alarm was raised immediately, and firefighters rushed to the scene, while the homeowner managed to escape the inferno, suffering serious injuries. Emergency responders immediately treated him, and he was then transferred to the Burns Center at Sassari Hospital. His condition immediately appeared very serious, and two nights ago, exactly two months after that tragic Sunday, he died from complications.

According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction , it wasn't a malfunction but a serious act deliberately committed by Aleandro Frau , who had opened two gas cylinders (not connected to the domestic system), saturating the room with gas. He then triggered the explosion with a lighter. He was subsequently arrested on serious charges of manslaughter, while the motives behind the act remained unclear.
