Summer will officially begin with the solstice on June 21 , but the heat has already arrived in Sardinia and until Wednesday it will make the island one of the hottest regions in Italy .

The civil protection weather alert for temperatures over 40 degrees has already been triggered and the increase in highs is also confirmed in these hours by the weather service of the Decimomannu Air Force (Metropolitan City of Cagliari).

"An anticyclonic field insists on the Mediterranean basin which guarantees atmospheric stability with the influx of south-eastern currents - the AM weather office reports - the transit of moderate to medium-high cloudiness and these southern currents favor an increase in temperatures especially on the western side of the island. Already today the highs will be around 36-38 degrees with a further increase with temperatures expected up to 42 degrees tomorrow in the Sassarese and Oristano area. On the eastern side, where there is a higher humidity rate, the maximums will reach 33 degrees, while in the south in the Campidano at 32-34".

This atmospheric situation will remain the same until at least Wednesday, while " from Thursday we will see a progressive equilibrium but always above 30 degrees ".

From Friday the mistral will blow, first bringing hot air from the north to the south of Sardinia, with maximum temperatures in Cagliari and in the Campidano area reaching 38 degrees, and then a little refreshment.

Meanwhile , the regional civil protection recommends not to go out during the hottest hours, especially for those at risk .

«In general, consume light meals and eat lots of fruit, drink adequately, avoiding alcoholic beverages and caffeine. Wear light-colored, light-colored clothes and hats and avoid synthetic fibers. If there are sick people in the house, be careful that they are not covered too much».
