The mayoral ordinance of the Municipality of Olbia that prohibits climbing to the top of Tavolara has been violated: two Spanish hikers entered the path in the Passu Malu area, losing their bearings.
Following a route downloaded from virtual maps, the two tourists found themselves in difficulty due to the lack of clear references and contacted a tourist guide from the Tavolara Libera Committee, who alerted the Alpine Rescue, which intervened immediately.
"No signs were present at the landing points or along the path, as indicated in the ordinance: this shows that prohibiting is not enough if it is not accompanied by active and responsible management of the territory", say the Committee, which reiterates the importance of the presence of guides to guarantee the safety of visitors.
"The committee renews its request to the Municipality for a serious, shared and respectful regulation that enhances the professionalism present in the territory, thus avoiding unnecessary risks both for those who frequent the island and for rescuers", concludes the Tavolara Libera Committee.
The ordinance, signed by the mayor, Settimo Nizzi, was the subject of debate and at the center of the last City Council, a few days ago, brought to the floor by a motion presented by the opposition that asked for the revocation of the act, a regulation for free but shared use, and in the meantime to put down in black and white the rules for safe access, the possibility of visiting the mountain in the middle of the sea of Olbia accompanied by qualified hiking guides.
Motion rejected by the mayor who imposed the ban, valid until the end of September, for safety reasons related to the morphological characteristics of the paths, considered highly dangerous.
