Tourist operators and environmental guides who feel damaged by the ban on climbing and hiking on Tavolara, signed by the mayor of Olbia, Settimo Nizzi , are ready to launch an administrative appeal and other legal initiatives.

For the Municipality of Olbia there are no longer the conditions for safe trekking activities on the island , too many people improvise excursions even on via ferratas.

A thesis contested by the environmental guides who over the years have accompanied thousands of people to Punta Cannone. Massimo Putzu, a 62-year-old from Olbia, a point of reference for all tour operators and enthusiasts, has already relied on a lawyer together with a group of colleagues, to call into question Nizzi's measure.

Putzu explains: «The safety emergency in Tavolara does not exist, on the via ferratas that we use there have been no accidents. Climbing takes place with rigorous protection measures. The truth is that someone wants to keep us away from this paradise. Imagine the mayor of Courmayeur who prohibits climbing and hiking on Mont Blanc».

Putzu and his colleagues are preparing for a legal battle, he says: «Since this morning my phone has been red hot, so many people are calling me. It's a shame that the usability of Tavolara is denied. It means that we will take people to San Pantaleo, Monte Nieddu and other sites». Putzu has already faced and won another battle, he was acquitted of the accusation of having illegally organized excursions to Punta Cannone. He had been reported by Vittorio Marzano, owner of a good part of the island. The guides who operate on Tavolara have turned to the lawyer Edi Baldino to study the Settimo Nizzi ordinance. Baldino explains: «We have very clear sentences on the point, this provision illegitimately limits excursion activity».
