"They're doing a really bad job in Girasole, giving jobs to relatives, giving away citizens' money to throw "personal" parties, and increasing the TARI (waste tax) and introducing a tourist tax." A Facebook user wrote this, following a discussion between the mayor of Tortolì, Marcello Ladu, and the deputy mayor of Girasole, Gianluca Congiu.

The person who posted the message had maintained anonymity, but after Congiu filed a complaint, the postal police unmasked the author (a 36-year-old from Girasole), who was charged with aggravated defamation through the use of social media. The incident dates back to September 6th. After collecting screenshots, the deputy mayor reported the incident to the officers, who on Wednesday, at the height of the investigation conducted by his colleagues at the Postal Police, tracked down the author of the post. Congiu's comment after the breakthrough in the case was terse: "Political discussion and debate must never lapse into defamation, insult, or personal attacks."

Mayor Lodovico Piras: "I am deeply saddened to discover that these insults came from one of our fellow citizens. I endorse the deputy mayor's statements and confirm that politics is about discussion and passion for one's community, not about name-calling and insults."
