A long procession from the regional department of industry to the regional government building to express the anger of the metalworkers of Sulcis after years of disputes with no solution on the horizon .
Today, Fiom-Fsm and Uilm took to the streets of Cagliari with workers for a mobilization that will continue at least until the June 11 meeting in Rome.
"From that meeting, we expect the government to provide answers regarding the individual companies in crisis: we won't stop at today's demonstration," the unions said. However, if the expected answers don't come from that meeting, the Sardinia Region is ready to take the disputes of SiderAlloys, the Enel power plant, Portovesme, and all the factories currently stalled with their related industries directly to Palazzo Chigi .
"We've addressed the critical issues facing the entire industrial hub, excluding no one, given the dire situation facing all direct workers and contractors," explained Roberto Forresu of Fiom. "The Region will support us and stand by us, and if no concrete answers come from the working group, it will go directly to Palazzo Chigi."
"We had a very positive discussion with the Region," said Giuseppe Masala of the FSM Cisl . "Todde made a strong commitment, along the lines shared with the union, to reach a breakthrough on the various disputes."
According to Renato Tocco of Uilm , "President Todde's stance has been firm in a situation that is collapsing and we are losing production piece by piece. We won't stop until the minister or the government honors their commitments."
"We will not allow the government to mix up different disputes that need to be resolved individually. We will demand that each dispute be resolved individually based on its specific situation," Todde said. "Stopgap solutions are no longer sufficient to simply ensure the subsistence of workers' families. Delays, procrastination, and failures by national institutions and companies like SiderAlloys, supported by public funds but completely in breach of their commitments, are no longer tolerable."
