The 46-year-old worker who died at work yesterday in Santadi was called Albino Giacomo Virgilio. Originally from Cossoine, married, father of two small children, he had lived in Olbia for years.

The news has thrown the community into despair, with the municipal administration of Cossoine deciding to proclaim city mourning on the day of the funeral and to cancel the car gymkhana scheduled for Saturday and the feast of San Sebastian at the end of July.

The tragedy occurred yesterday when, while Virgilio was working on the construction site to lay a large electricity pipe, a large wrench fell on his chest causing him to suffer cardiac arrest . According to an initial reconstruction, the worker was alone when the accident occurred.

Colleagues found him on the ground, with the wrench on his chest, and raised the alarm. The Carbonia carabinieri and 118 arrived on site with the air ambulance. The 46-year-old was rushed to the Brotzu hospital, but when he arrived in the emergency room he died. The wrench has been seized, the Spresal specialists of the ASL are working to reconstruct the dynamics of what happened.
