There was a major scare this morning, just before 8:00 a.m., near the Lotzorai campsites. A 50-year-old Spanish cyclist was struck by a sudden illness while riding his bicycle on a road on the outskirts of town. He lost his balance and fell.

The alarm was raised by a passerby who, having promptly noticed the man's presence, immediately contacted the emergency number 112.

The first responders to arrive on the scene (the Tortolì Green Cross ambulance) initially feared the worst: the tourist showed no signs of consciousness, his heart was in cardiac arrest . To support the delicate recovery operations, the Sassari operations center alerted the crew of Echo Lima 1, which had taken off from Olbia.

The aircraft crew made every effort to save the man, who was vacationing at the Le Cernie campsite in Lotzorai. His condition was revealed to be less serious than expected during initial treatment on the scene. The cyclist regained consciousness and was transported to San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro.
