This morning, the Carabinieri conducted a major operation in Selargius , near Pizz'e Pranu , where a large illegal landfill was discovered and seized . Within the area, officers found numerous vehicles, ten of which were stolen, as well as several environmental violations: from illegal waste management to illegal wastewater discharges , and the presence of substances potentially hazardous to the soil and groundwater. Four men, aged between 23 and 46 and residents of the area, have been charged.

The operation, aimed at combating property crime and protecting the environment, involved Carabinieri from the Selargius station together with their colleagues from Sinnai and Monserrato , with the support of the Operations and Radiomobile Unit of the Cagliari Company . Given the complexity of the operation , specialized units from the Sardinian Hunters Helicopter Squadron , the Ecology Operations Unit, and the Dog Unit were also deployed, while the area was monitored from above by the 11th Helicopter Unit from Elmas.

The search operations, which included personal, property, and vehicle searches, led to the recovery of numerous small cars and commercial vehicles in the area. Subsequent investigations revealed that ten vehicles had been stolen between 2025 and early 2026 in the areas of Cagliari, Quartu Sant'Elena, and Sestu. The intervention of the Carabinieri Ecological Operations Unit also led to the discovery of large swaths of land transformed into uncontrolled dumps for hazardous waste. The investigations revealed illegal waste management, illegal discharges of effluent, and the presence of pollutants potentially harmful to the environment. The irregular delivery of end-of-life vehicles to unauthorized centers, in violation of environmental regulations, was also alleged. Upon completion of the investigation, the four were charged. The charges, to varying degrees, concern illegal waste management and the illegal dumping of pollutants.
