State Police without men and means in Sardinia , the regional secretary of Siulp, Giuseppe Caracciolo, launches a new alarm on security on the Island. The union leader says: «The serious and perennial insufficiency of resources, compared to the growing and rampant crime that is invading and pervading the different realities, cannot be addressed with promises followed by the usual "almost" nothing done».
«In the month of June, only two units were assigned to the Sassari Police Headquarters and its direct branches in the distribution/strengthening plan for the entire workforce. The provincial secretaries of the Siulp, Massimo Vargiu (Cagliari), Massimiliano Pala (Sassari), Massimo Mastracco (Nuoro) and Alessandro Scintu (Oristano), underline the absolute inadequacy of their respective overall staffing plans (which, moreover, date back to the late 80s and early 90s of the last century), compared to the current environmental and territorial conditions, which have radically changed (the various economic crises that have occurred, the increase in crime, the radicalization of new forms of crime, think of the Internet, the marked change in the social fabric, etc.). The situation described, which has always penalized Sardinia, requires an effort so that it is not underestimated and an adequate response is instead provided».
Caracciolo recalls the attack on the Mondialpol vault in Sassari "with the Carabinieri service car riddled with bullets and the Highway Police service vehicle, hit by a gunshot that lodged in the rear trunk". The secretary of the Siulp starts with the data: "It is estimated, at present, a shortage of about 650 women and men of the State Police in the regional area. It should be added that in almost all offices, with very rare exceptions, the average age of police officers on duty is between 48 and 50 years of age . We are increasingly convinced that security cannot be considered a cost, but an indispensable investment for the life of the country and of all citizens".
