Many members, but also many critical issues that prevent Sardinia from shining in terms of "sportsmanship", or quality of life linked to the diffusion of sport at a provincial level .
This is what the 20th edition of the ranking created by PTS Sport and published by Il Sole 24 Ore reports, based on an index that measures the quality and diffusion of sport at the provincial level through 32 indicators divided into four macro-categories: Individual sports, Team sports, Sports facilities, Sport and society.
The first Sardinian province to appear in the rankings is Cagliari, which scores 420.1 points, placing it 22nd nationally, but falling several places (in the last edition it was tenth). Cagliari remains the top southern province and maintains its national leadership in terms of registered athletes.
The other provinces of the island are much further behind: Sassari is in 55th place (216.3 points), Nuoro in 84th (102 points), Oristano 98th (103.4 points), while Southern Sardinia is relegated to 107th and last place.
At the top of the rankings is Milan (1,000 points), crowned Italy's sportiest province for the first time. Also on the podium are Trento , second, winner of three of the last four editions, and Bolzano , third. At the foot of the podium are Bologna (4th) and Florence (5th).
The rankings take into account indicators such as competitive results, the spread of sports, facilities, investments, event organization, the presence of sports clubs, and the economic impact of sport.
"The ranking," it is explained, "confirms once again this year the persistence of a significant territorial gap . After Viterbo (92nd), the last places are occupied exclusively by provinces in the South, with Southern Sardinia once again bringing up the rear . Furthermore, no province in Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, or Sicily managed to climb to the podium in any of the Index's four macro-categories, confirming the difficulties that characterize a significant part of the Southern sports system."
