The demolition and reconstruction of the bridge crossing the Predugnanu local road in Sorso has been completed, reopening the road to traffic. The existing bridge, no longer compliant with current hydraulic and structural safety regulations, has been completely rebuilt in reinforced concrete, in compliance with current technical standards.
The project also included riverbed protection in the areas most exposed to erosion near the bridge, as well as resurfacing the asphalt road surface and re-marking the road markings in the affected section. This work is part of a broader program of interventions funded by the Sardinia Region – Office of the Government Commissioner for Hydrogeological Risk, for a total of €2 million, earmarked for the safety of various areas within the municipality.
This is a comprehensive plan, partly completed and partly nearing completion. The same funding has already included the filling of a section of the covered canal near the Maiori washhouse; the reconstruction of portions of the riverbed, with reinforced concrete structures and adequate hydraulic sections, in the section between Via Siglienti and the Via Castelsardo bridge, near the entrance to the industrial zone; and further work to secure the riverbed in the Predugnanu area, near a sewer pipe crossing.
Over the coming months, completion of the pressure relief grids in the remaining section of the covered canal near the Majori washhouse is planned, as well as a series of targeted interventions to reshape the riverbed and clear vegetation along some sections of the Rio Predugnanu . "With the reopening of the Predugnanu road, we are restoring safety and full functionality to an important infrastructure for our area," stated Mayor Fabrizio Demelas. "This intervention is part of a broader strategy to prevent hydrogeological risks, which we are implementing with significant regional resources and through careful and concrete planning. Investing in the safety of waterways and infrastructure," the mayor concluded, "means protecting our residents, the territory, and the future of our community. We will continue along this path with the interventions already planned and soon to be completed."
