A sacrilegious theft occurred in the rural church of the Blessed Virgin "Noli me tollere," known as the Sanctuary of Sorso, located on the outskirts of town. The Preddugnanu Chapel was desecrated to steal precious objects—gold necklaces and earrings—donated by the faithful themselves, worn by the statue of the Madonna, a sign of the community's devotion. The thieves reportedly forced the locks on the gate in front of the altar and the niche where the statue of the Virgin was kept. The church, located in the countryside, is reportedly under video surveillance, which could help law enforcement identify the culprits. Outrage has erupted in the town and among the Capuchin friars of Sorso: "If you need real financial help," is the message addressed to the thieves, "the local church, the Sanctuary, and the parishes have always been quietly committed to charity, but stealing from the Madonna is equivalent to stealing from the faithful." The Carabinieri of Sorso are investigating the case. to whom a complaint has been filed against unknown persons.
