For a 51-year-old man from Sorso, the accusations were more than serious. According to his ex-partner, from 2022 to 2024, he subjected her to a series of psychological abuses that left her in a state of ongoing anxiety.

These included death threats with alleged weapons, both a gun and a knife. There was even an attempted strangulation, and the man allegedly forced her to have sexual intercourse without her consent on multiple occasions.

This conduct had led the judge, a year ago, to issue a precautionary measure against the man, which was in effect until yesterday, and which consisted of a ban on him approaching the woman and the places she frequented.

But this accusatory construction collapsed yesterday in the Sassari courtroom, during the summary hearing, following the ruling of preliminary hearing judge Sergio De Luca, who ordered a full acquittal, "because the crime is not proven." And while the prosecutor, Maria Paola Asara, had requested a two-year sentence, but only for the crime of mistreatment, not believing the crime of sexual assault had been proven, the defense lawyers rebutted the charges across the board.

Lawyers Mario Spanu and Deborah Del Giudice argued that the accusations were completely unsupported, even medically, as there was no medical report attesting to the alleged abuse . Furthermore, the defense argued that the defendant's former partner's version of events had repeatedly appeared contradictory, and the facts presented were inconsistent. Ultimately, the judge ordered an acquittal.
