The criminals, including a minor, were stopped by Carabinieri in Ottana. The incident occurred between the provinces of Oristano and Nuoro, and those arrested are two men and a minor , both already known to law enforcement. In their car, in addition to the stolen weapons, a stolen car was found. a 7.65 caliber pistol with the serial number erased, with the magazine inserted and ready for use as well as portable radios, binoculars, numerous burglary tools including a battery-powered electric grinder, work gloves, daggers and silicone masks with human features.
The incident began in Sorradile , where the gang—taking advantage of the thick fog that had descended on the town overnight—stole a safe from the home of a pensioner who was legally storing rifles, carbines, pistols, and ammunition of various calibers . The three then attempted to escape in a rented Fiat Panda, whose license plate they had obscured.
When the alarm was raised, however, the three had to deal with the system implemented in recent days in the Oristano area by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri, with dozens of soldiers from the Ghilarza Company and the "Cacciatori di Sardegna" Helicopter Squadron from Abbasanta in the field.
The Carabinieri intercepted the criminals' car, and after a long chase, which included several secondary roads, they were stopped in the Ottana area.
In addition to the stolen weapons, illegal and suspicious material was also found in the car, which was seized. Following initial investigations, two of those arrested—originally from Silius and Siurgus Donigala—were jailed in Massama. The third accomplice, a minor, was taken to the CPA in Sassari.
The charges against them include aggravated theft of weapons, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of a clandestine weapon, use of counterfeit license plates, and possession of burglary tools.
