Tears, memories but also a new appeal to fight violence against health workers. On Thursday 3 July, the president of the National Federation of the Orders of Surgeons and Dentists, Filippo Anelli, will be in Solarussa on the occasion of the naming of the square in front of the town hall after Dr. Roberta Zedda, exactly 22 years after her tragic killing while she was on duty at the town's medical emergency service. Roberta, a young doctor originally from Sanluri, was barbarously murdered on 3 July 2003 during her shift on medical duty in Solarussa. She was only 33 years old.
His death, unjust and painful, has deeply affected the civil conscience of the medical and local community, giving rise to national reflections on the safety of health workers. The naming initiative was promoted by the municipal administration of Solarussa, in response to a need felt and shared by all citizens, which also emerged from a public consultation. Over the years, the Federation has promoted numerous initiatives against violence towards doctors, with concrete proposals such as the recognition of the status of public official for health workers and the activation of automatic legal paths in cases of aggression.
The Federation is also committed to gender equality in medicine, supporting the visibility of female doctors, the recognition of female skills and the valorization of gender medicine as a cultural and scientific tool. The presidents of the four provincial Orders of Sardinia will also be present. The commemoration will open at 6:30 pm with a Holy Mass, followed by institutional speeches and the official naming of the square. The evening will end with a musical moment curated by local polyphonic choirs.
