Snail race in Gesico: Virginia the snail crosses the finish line first

Applause, wild fans and lots of laughter on the occasion of the twenty-seventh Snail Race, reserved for children and adults who have never grown up, promoted by the Pro Loco and the Tidu bumper cars on the occasion of the 32nd edition of the Snail Festival which is being celebrated these days in Gesico in conjunction with the centuries-old Feast of Sant'Amatore.
The race characterized by the slow but continuous pace of “is sitzigorrus” has attracted many fans to the small town of Trexenta. The first to cross the finish line was Virginia from Nathan Marcello’s stable, in second place the snail Fulmine and in third place the veteran Rombo di Tuono. “It is the slowest race in the world – says the president of Pro loco Carlo Carta –, there is no child in our Trexenta who has not observed the slow running of the snail and instinctively tried to touch it to give it a push”.
The Feast of Sant'Amatore, this year in its 403rd edition, continues today, Sunday, October 20, for the whole day (until 10 pm), with shows for children and musical events, along the streets of the town. During the day, the Piazza Mercato will be animated by the "Social Stands". At 6 pm in Piazza Padre Fausto Cuccu the concert of the Istentales.
