At the Marina di Portisco in Olbia, investigators are conducting a new inspection into the death of Giovanni Marchionni , the young skipper from Campania found dead on board a yacht in August 2025.

The inspection was attended by consultants from the prosecutor Ocone, who is leading the investigation, as well as prosecutor Gregorio Capasso , police officers from the Olbia police station, and forensic officers.

Technicians are paying particular attention to a battery compartment where—this is the hypothesis—hydrogen sulfide fumes, asphyxiating and lethal, may have been released , reaching Marchionni while he was sleeping, in a cramped space on the vessel with no portholes. The batteries in question have been removed and will be subjected to analysis.

The Prosecutor's Office is considering charges of manslaughter , but is also considering charges relating to failure to comply with workplace safety regulations.

«Giovanni was not on vacation, he was working for the yacht owner» , reiterated the Marchionni family lawyer, Gabriele Satta , who was also present at the inspection.
