In Sinnai, the winds have abated, and Mayor Barbara Pusceddu has issued a new ordinance. For safety reasons, the Pineta Urban Park, as well as other municipal parks and gardens, will be closed until 9:00 PM today, February 17 (subject to extension or early revocation due to improved weather conditions).
The mayor urges residents to "fully respect self-protection measures in case of strong winds and to avoid frequenting wooded areas for the duration of the alert."
In this regard, the local police chief, Giuseppe Fiori, also announced that "a day of surveillance has been ordered in the Sinnai Pineta park to ensure proper compliance with the mayoral ordinance issued late yesterday afternoon by Mayor Pusceddu, also in light of the criticality bulletin issued by the Regional Civil Protection Directorate, which predicted gale-force winds for today."
The mayor of Sinnai also requested a preliminary opinion from the head of the Sette Fratelli Complex of the Forestas Agency, who communicated that the remediation operations of the trees most at risk of falling are still ongoing, therefore it is advisable to keep the Urban Park closed.
Winds are expected to ease this evening, so the order, which is in effect until 9:00 PM on February 17, could be extended before its expiration if the new forecast, expected at 2:00 PM today, confirms the persistence of the mistral wind.
Regarding cemeteries, it has been established that, "in the event of strong winds, posing a danger, they will be closed immediately and all visitors will be evacuated."
Access to the Sinnai Urban Pine Forest Park will be permitted exclusively to employees of the Forestas Agency, law enforcement, local police, and emergency vehicles.
