The proposal will be presented tomorrow to the Siniscola City Council and promises to spark debate. The minority council group, GISS, has introduced a motion to grant honorary citizenship to Vasco Rossi, the Emilian rocker who in recent years has publicly spoken of his ties to Siniscola, recalling his childhood in Baronia.
The positions
"We decided to propose this initiative," explains opposition councilor Marcantonio Farris, "taking as our motivation the fact that Vasco was part of the Siniscola community, having lived there for several years as a child."
In recent years, the artist has fondly recalled his childhood stay in Baronia on several occasions. More recently, he explained that an uncle had moved to Siniscola for work and that the family joined him in Sardinia.
Mayor Gian Luigi Farris isn't closing the door, but is calling for further investigation. "I would be extremely proud to bestow this recognition on Vasco Rossi," he says, "provided that his actual residence in Siniscola is clarified. It would be appropriate to verify, through documents, reliable testimonies, or photographs, that he actually lived here."
