A single ticket for those traveling on different means of transport, but also more connections with the hinterland and stops in areas where students are most concentrated, such as the campus on Viale la Playa or the canteen on Via Premuda. These are just some of the issues reported this morning by student representatives, in a meeting (the first of a long series) with the institutions of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari. Over two hours, in the council chamber of Palazzo Bacaredda, for an event promoted by the Municipality of Cagliari in which students were able to present problems, studies and proposals on transport and mobility.
The topic is increasingly central to the lives of students who frequent the city, both non-residents and residents . Representatives of the central bodies of the University of Cagliari were present at the Provincial Council, passing through those of the Academic Senate up to the member of the board of directors of Ersu and Cus. With them institutions and companies of local, urban and extra-urban public transport.
For the institutional part , the deputy mayor Maria Cristina Mancini and the councilors Giulia Andreozzi and Yuri Marcialis for the Municipality of Cagliari, the regional councilor for Transport Barbara Manca, the rector of the University of Cagliari Francesco Mola, the sole administrator and central director of Arst Roberto Neroni and Carlo Poledrini, the president of the CTM Fabrizio Rodin with the general director Bruno Useli, the deputy mayor of the metropolitan city Francesco Lilliu and the councilor Andrea Onali participated.
Many issues have emerged: from the need to increase connections with the hinterland (also very useful for high school students, often forced to stay away from home from six in the morning and for the following 12-14 hours) to the overcrowding of public transport during rush hour for access to schools and universities, from the request for a single ticket for those travelling on different means of transport to Cagliari from all over southern Sardinia to greater flexibility in connections , from the need for more journeys even in the evening hours to more frequent connections and closer stops to the areas with the highest concentration of students , such as the campus in viale La Playa or the canteen in via Premuda, from the expansion of the group of university students who can benefit from discounts on tickets to the request for a study room in the unused rooms of the station in piazza Matteotti , in order to be able to make the best use of the waiting time for travel to the countries of origin.
The commitment, by everyone, each with the problems to be faced according to their competence, is to keep the contacts active in a more systematic way. The goal is to change the paradigm of Cagliari as a university city to start thinking about Cagliari as a metropolitan university city : «The right to study also involves the right to be able to move in a better way, without having to organize one's life based on the timetables of the journeys to be made. We need to rethink the spaces to suit people. It is a cultural work and it will take time, but meetings of this type are useful to lay the foundations in this direction».
