The fear is that of feeling ill, of coming into contact with contaminated water, with all the associated risks. That's why the matter is now in the hands of a lawyer.

Residents of the hamlet of San Vero Congius, in the Simaxis area , have been living with yellow, smelly water for a year, so much so that a few weeks ago the Oristano Local Health Authority reported the presence of coliform bacteria and a quantity of iron twelve times higher than normal.

This is why Mayor Giacomo Obinu ordered a ban on the use of water, but also asked Abbanoa to intervene in the now aging network.

Last Tuesday, residents gathered to address the issue. During a public meeting attended by the city council, they decided to hand over the matter to a lawyer. "Our health is at risk," explains Gianluca Podda , a resident of the hamlet of San Vero Congius and an environmental engineer. "There are many children and people with serious illnesses who come into contact with this water every day. Who's to tell us it's safe? We believe it's an attack on public health."

Podda then makes another point: "Why should we pay bills for a service that isn't offered fairly and correctly? Now we'll have to decide whether or not to pay the bills. This can't continue."

According to Abbanoa, "the problem is caused by water flowing through an old pipeline where tuberculosis has formed. Abbanoa has already replaced approximately 1.2 km of water main. There is still another kilometer to go, but work has not begun because permits have not been issued: the pipeline runs alongside a state road, which, however, is very narrow and therefore does not allow for construction work without blocking traffic. Abbanoa technicians are working on an alternative solution."
