An analysis of the state of health of healthcare in Sardinia. A sort of "general states of healthcare" this morning in the council chamber of the municipality of Jerzu on the occasion of the regional conference "A new phase for healthcare in Sardinia".
A morning full of interventions by experts with 17 speakers, which saw the participation of the mayor of the house Carlo Lai, several colleagues from Ogliastra and ordinary citizens.
A healthcare system that is struggling, sick, but that among the many critical points also has some strengths. Shadows, many, it is true, but also lights. For example, the helicopter rescue service that in areas like Ogliastra means saving lives. "From 1 July 2018, the organic helicopter rescue system started, which before was seasonal and, however well managed, having a professionalizing service is the solution" said Giuseppe Dessì, director of the emergency-urgency department of Brotzu, "we see increasingly serious traumas that are managed while before people died on the street. Emergency situations such as strokes or heart attacks that are governed because they are centralized in the right hospital and at the right times. This is fundamental. We need to make the helicopter rescue service much more widespread by enabling a whole series of helicopter landing points".
For the former director of Brotzu and Mater Olbia Franco Meloni «healthcare is better than how it is described, there are many things that work, such as 118, the emergency is holding up, the hospitals have an enormous amount of admissions and services, there is a lot to save». And there is a lot to improve starting from the planning.
The organizer of the conference, Attilio Carta, of the scientific committee that strongly supported the meeting, was satisfied: «It was very well attended, stimulating, constructive», he says, «an apolitical and proactive event with experts in the sector and beyond. We have collected many ideas and critical issues that we will summarize to then present an effective proposal to the competent bodies, political forces, media».
Leading the various interventions was the experienced direction of the moderator, the journalist Fabio Manca. Among others, Nazzareno Pacifico, former director of Brotzu and Aou Cagliari, Fulvia Murru, national secretary of Uil Fpl, Mario Nieddu, former health councilor, Attilio Murru, administrative director of Ares Sardegna, took turns.
