A small outbreak started again this morning in the countryside of Pardu Nou, the agricultural village of Siamaggiore which was hit by a dangerous fire on Wednesday afternoon.
The alarm arrived mid-morning at the Fenosu Forestry base, three Forestas and Forestry tankers were immediately sent. The flames were stopped immediately (the extinguishing operations were coordinated by the Oristano forestry station) and then the clean-up began.
Meanwhile, the men of the investigative unit of the forestry station have started investigations in the points where the flames started yesterday; malicious origin is not excluded.
The situation is also constantly monitored by the mayor Davide Dessì who speaks of "a hellish Wednesday evening". The fire, which started from the north-western outskirts, in a few minutes fueled by the wind, spread towards the town, grazing the rural church of San Ciriaco and touching that of Pardu Nou, and several companies. A total of 20 hectares were burned: «Five hectares of wheat fields devastated in ten minutes – explains the mayor – and then olive groves and seasonal crops such as watermelons and tomatoes». About ten homes were evacuated on Wednesday, two helicopters and a Canadair intervened. «It will be difficult to forget the panic, the despair on the faces of fellow citizens who in a short time have seen the hard work and investments of months and years go up in smoke – underlines the mayor – It is necessary to thank all the forces involved in dealing with the emergency: Fire Brigade, Forestry Corps, Civil Protection, Forestas, Carabinieri, the State Police and all the volunteers who, by making their means available, actively collaborated in the success of the intervention. A thought goes to the community of Tramatza, also hit by flames yesterday. We are at the gates of summer: our hope is that yesterday's sad afternoon remains an isolated episode."
