The shadow of 97 gigantic offshore wind turbines is taking shape and growing ever darker over the southwestern coast of Sardinia. The Ministry of the Environment issued a resolution on September 1, concluding the scoping phase of the project to install 55 320-meter-tall wind towers off Capo Pecora. The proposing company, Renewables Energies Ltd, based in London but with a Sardinian director, has received operational instructions to submit an environmental impact assessment and obtain approval. The approval process for 42 285-meter wind turbines spread across approximately 116 square kilometers of sea off Capo Altano, Fontanamare, Porto Paglia, and not far from Porto Flavia and Buggerru is now in its final stages. The Ministry of Culture has already approved the project, as has the Ministry of Economic Development (MASE). The "assessment of opinions" is underway.

The 55 towers

The ministerial framework for yet another wind energy challenge facing Sardinia was outlined in Rome by Elena De Luca, coordinator of the Pniec subcommittee, who signed the closing of the scoping phase, which began in April 2025, for wind power along the tuna route : 55 towers planned off the coast of Iglesiente (23 kilometers from Capo Pecora) and landfall at Portoscuso via a 60-kilometer underwater cable. The company's technicians who prepared the documents assure that "the graphics clearly show that the planned wind farm will be difficult to distinguish from the coast." However, the observer is assumed to be from the beach. Only Capo Pecora reaches 500 meters: the perspective is different.
