A stuffed loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) was abandoned in front of the Nino Pala Maritime Terminal in Porto Torres . It was found this morning within the port area and reported to the Barracellare company patrol. The discovery was made by a waste collection worker, who spotted a plastic garbage bag marked "Comune di Sassari sacco per differenziata" (Municipality of Sassari, recycling bag) at the foot of the fence in front of the Maritime Terminal parking lot. Inside, a medium-sized stuffed sea turtle was found, complete with all four flippers and its head.
Further inspection revealed a piece of string underneath the shell, likely used to hang the animal as a trophy . It is presumed that the turtle was abandoned by someone departing for a ship bound for Genoa. Fearing discovery at the crossing or upon disembarkation in the Ligurian port , the person abandoned the animal in the parking areas usually used by those waiting to board a scheduled ferry. The animal has been handed over to the relevant authorities.
