Severe weather in Sardinia, road closures and overflowing streams: transport disruptions
Roadways flooded with debris, water and rocksThe first transport problems are being recorded in Sardinia due to the severe weather that is particularly affecting the southern and eastern parts of the island . The heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have caused the temporary closure of several roads, some of which have been flooded with debris and rocks, with inevitable repercussions on traffic and public transport.
ARST, the regional transport company, reported disruptions, especially in the Siniscola area, on the Nuoro coast.
Traffic has been closed in the hamlet of Santa Lucia di Siniscola , affected by the passage of line 514. Traffic has also been stopped along provincial road 3 , in the section between Sa Petra Ruja and the town of La Caletta , where line 521 passes.
Further critical issues have been recorded in the connections between Lanusei and Gairo, due to a landslide that affected state road 198.
Traffic problems also exist to and from Parteolla, where transit difficulties have been reported on state highway 387 near the Soleminis junction.
Discomfort and fear also persisted along provincial road 114, between Esterzili and Escalaplano, where the flooding of several streams caused serious traffic disruptions.
The most worrying situation is at kilometer 10, in the “Funtana e Passai” area, where water has invaded the roadway, making traffic extremely dangerous.
In Teulada, the Province has ordered the closure of provincial road 71 with immediate effect, due to adverse weather conditions and critical issues encountered along the route.
The Cixerri River is also under special surveillance due to its level and the potential risk of flooding. The municipality of Siliqua, in southern Sardinia, is already under emergency conditions.
Mayor Francesca Atzori has already activated the Municipal Operations Center.
"We are working as a precaution," he said. "We are constantly monitoring the area, particularly Cixcerri."
The persistent rain is causing numerous floods in the countryside and along the roads, particularly the municipal road between Siliqua and Villamassargia , which is no longer passable.
Disruptions also occurred in the regional capital. In Cagliari, the CTM transport company rescheduled and diverted some lines that pass through the hamlet of Pirri, following the red weather alert issued for the area. Additionally, all school supplements were suspended for two days.
Authorities recommend limiting travel to what is strictly necessary and avoiding areas affected by flooding.
