It's not over. Severe weather continues to plague Sardinia, and a flood warning has been issued. Strong winds and heavy rains are expected, placing much of Sardinia in an orange alert for hydrogeological and hydraulic risks. "Weather conditions are expected to worsen from this evening, starting in western Sardinia, and then extending to the rest of the island," the regional Civil Protection bulletin states. "Precipitation will be mostly scattered, including isolated showers or thunderstorms, with locally high cumulative rainfall in the central part of the region and moderate elsewhere."

The thunderstorm component, "although less significant than the stratiform component, will be more likely between late evening and the first half of the day on Saturday."

The orange alert applies to all of central Sardinia, the Oristano, Cagliari, Sarrabus, Ogliastra, and Baronia regions. The Sulcis and Sassari regions are under yellow alert.

Rain, but also wind: "Strong winds, locally gale-force, and rough seas are expected until late Sunday evening along the island's western coasts," another bulletin explains. "The winds, initially from the southwest, will tend to shift and become northwesterly in the second half of Saturday."

Following this evolution, " the storm surge will take on a southwesterly component until midday on Saturday, with a subsequent northwesterly rotation of the swell. The storm surge is expected to peak in the early hours of Sunday, with significant wave heights exceeding 6 meters and average periods exceeding 9 seconds in the Sardinian Sea."
