Seulo celebrated the centenary of Gioanni Mameli in the registry of the great long-lived people who have crossed the milestone of a century of life, from 1978 to today, Giovanni Mameli is the 32nd. The municipal administration has awarded him the title reserved for all centenarians of "honorary mayor".

The celebrations continued around a table set with food that brought together the whole family. Giovanni has always lived in Seulo, working as a shepherd. In a life that lasts a century, one has all the time to go through a multitude of feelings, circumstances, human, existential, private as well as significant segments of historical changes. An experience that Giovanni told his grandchildren Andrea and Barbara: "I was in the countryside grazing sheep when suddenly a beam of lights crossed the sky, then a large luminous sphere. The light was so intense that I got scared and ran to hide."

Giovanni, deeply astonished by those facts that he was evidently unable to explain, thought it best not to speak of them to anyone. But after a few months his extraordinary experience found comfort in an article published by L'Unione Sarda which reported the story of some drivers who spotted the beam of light and the luminous sphere that had frightened Giovanni.

This anecdote does not tell us much about life on other distant planets, but it precisely describes a character that centenarians have in common, the wisdom of knowing how to wait, of keeping quiet when necessary, without rushing to superficial conclusions.
