Tragedy this morning at Capo Malfatano, on the south-western coast of Sardinia in the territory of Teulada.

A man fishing on the rocks died after being swept away by a freak wave that sent him into the sea.

The victim is a forty-year-old from Settimo San Pietro. This morning he was fishing on the rocks with a friend, when a wave made him fall into the water and the undertow dragged him out to sea.

The episode occurred around 9:30, the victim's friend immediately alerted the rescue services and the port authority intervened. The forty-year-old was rescued and brought to shore by a local dinghy rental company, but it was already too late.

The 118 doctors who intervened on the beach of Capo Malfatano were unable to revive him and could only confirm the death of the fisherman. The Coast Guard is working to reconstruct exactly the dynamics of the tragedy.
