Carabinieri from the local station arrested a 41-year-old unemployed man, a resident of the city and already known for addiction problems, on charges of extortion against a 79-year-old pensioner.

According to investigators' findings, the elderly man had been subjected to increasingly insistent requests for money from the man for a long time. Initially, the donations were made as part of a relationship, but starting in 2023, the demands escalated into actual death threats and constant harassment by phone.

For fear of worse consequences , the victim would have handed over varying sums, from a few euros to larger amounts.

The situation escalated on the morning of Thursday, September 11 , when the 41-year-old allegedly forced the pensioner again, under threat, to hand over a 20-euro note. After collecting the money, the man fled, but the immediate intervention of the Carabinieri allowed him to be located in the city center. A personal and home search led to the recovery of the note, which was later returned to its rightful owner.
