A mysterious attack occurred overnight in Sestu, near the country church of San Gemiliano, where a major celebration dedicated to one of the area's most beloved and venerated saints is underway.

The alarm was raised around 2:30 a.m., when the 118 operations center dispatched two ambulances to the scene after reports of several people injured in an assault involving a beating. There were also reports of a stabbing, but when emergency responders and medical personnel reached the area, they found no one.

It's not yet clear whether any traces of blood related to the alleged attack were found at the scene. The Carabinieri are investigating the incident.

According to an initial and still sketchy reconstruction, everything happened while the sanctuary area and the nearby pine forest were gradually emptying of the thousands of worshippers and visitors who had attended the performances on the second evening of the festival. For reasons still unclear, a violent altercation broke out between several foreign citizens and some Sardinians.

During the argument, one of the North Africans allegedly slightly injured another person with a blade. He was then disarmed and severely beaten. Some bystanders then called 911 , and the operations center dispatched ambulances to the scene. However, by the time they arrived, both the person who had been stabbed and the man who had been disarmed and beaten had already fled.

The Carabinieri of the Sestu station carried out investigations for over an hour and a half in an attempt to identify the protagonists and reconstruct precisely what happened, but so far without success.

Furthermore, no one with wounds consistent with a knife or injuries consistent with a beating appeared at the emergency room overnight. Therefore, the exact circumstances of the incident and, more importantly, the identities of those involved remain unclear .
