A smell of burning plastic, with unbreathable air, that spread through the streets of the city center. It happens in Sestu. Many reports especially on Facebook, in the last few days, but there were also some weeks or months ago. "I live in via Costantino Imperatore, and I smelled a very strong burning smell," says Ruben Bernardino, "and it is clearly a burning plastic smell."

A long way off, almost on the other side of town, Aldo Manunza explains: "I was in the sports field area, so near Corso Italia, and I saw the smoke. The smell was unmistakable." There are also those who say they had asthma attacks, and burned plastic is toxic. It releases dioxins and toxins, which have lethal effects on humans and the environment, and leave molecular contaminations on the ground that remain for years, and decades.

Among the citizens, an investigation into the possible authors is launched, pointing the finger at the countryside, in the Su Stentu area, perhaps people who do not pay the Tari, and dispose of waste by doing it themselves. According to some, the name of the authors, or the author, would be the classic secret that everyone knows.

Yet the Local Police, officially, knows nothing about it: «We have not received any reports or complaints», explains Captain Giogio Desogus, «I want to remind you that reports must be made by calling our number, coming to our office, not just on Facebook».

But the law remains clear: "Fires of stubble are allowed in winter and not in summer, and burning plastic is never allowed. The fine can be up to 3200 euros." The Police have also issued fines in the past, and the investigative activity is carried out in the countryside, also with the collaboration of Barracelli or Forestale.
