Serious symptoms of Covid, one in four Sardinians exposed to the infection

There are 168,300 over 60s who have been immunized for more than six months. And another 203,478 Sardinians, from twelve to centenarians, without any dose. All things considered, one in four Sardinians are exposed to the contagion, and to the serious symptoms of Covid, without protection or with diminishing protection.

Many more if we add the over 20 thousand health service workers vaccinated between December, January and February, the frail, the staff and guests of the RSA, who have not yet received the third dose.

“A serious risk - confirms Antonello Serra, head of health surveillance of the Aou of Sassari -. At the moment the virus is circulating in a large pool of people, with an easy transmission as it was last year but two more problems: one, we are dealing with the Delta variant, doubly infectious compared to the English; two, last winter contacts were much more difficult: we did not go to the restaurant or to the gym, we were more careful in using the mask ... Today this is not the case, and in fact for each positive we have an extremely higher amount of contacts , especially in young people ".

Today the undecided of the first dose are gradually being added to the undecided of the third dose.

"To the problem of the circulation of the virus - emphasizes Dr. Serra -, there is therefore an increase in the risk that not only subjects without any dose may end up in hospital, but also those who have completed the vaccination cycle for more than six months, even if to a lesser extent than the unvaccinated. This is what we are beginning to see and that worries us the most: when we convert a ward to the care of Covid patients we are in fact taking it away from the other patients, from the treatment of all other diseases, even unfortunately this is what many fail to understand ".
