Detained in the industrial port of Porto Torres due to serious safety deficiencies. The detention order against the cargo vessel "Elena," flying the Antigua & Barbuda flag and carrying bentonite, was issued by the Olbia Coast Guard inspection unit following a safety inspection.

The inspection revealed significant deficiencies in the management and maintenance of the onboard fire prevention system , compromising the effectiveness of fire prevention and response systems. Malfunctions were also detected in the radio communications equipment. The serious irregularities discovered pose a risk to the safety of the crew, the vessel, and the marine environment. Given the non-compliance identified, in accordance with applicable international conventions on navigation safety and the protection of human life at sea, the competent authority has ordered the vessel's detention, which will remain in effect until the required safety conditions are fully restored.

The vessel will be able to resume navigation only after all the deficiencies detected have been eliminated and following a favourable outcome of a new inspection by the Port State Control Unit of Olbia.
