Separate waste collection, virtuous Sardinians: the island is second in Italy with 75.9%

With 75.9%, Sardinia is the second region in Italy for percentage of separate waste collection. Very virtuous Sardinians therefore, ahead of them only the Venetians with 76.2% .
The data, relating to 2022, emerges from the SNPA Environment Report presented today in Rome.
In Italy, the amount of waste disposed of in landfill is constantly decreasing, from 63.1% in 2002 to 17.8% in 2022 . There are 117 operational landfills: 50 in the North, 25 in the Center and 42 in the South.
EU legislation requires reaching 10% by 2035, we are on the right track.
The objective of a significant reduction in the total municipal waste produced is more difficult to achieve: in 2022 it stands at 29.1 million tonnes, down only 1.8% compared to the previous year.
Differentiation at a national level has reached 65%. The most collected fraction in Italy is organic waste (38.3% of the total), followed by paper and cardboard with 19.3% and glass with 12.3% .
