The funeral of Antonello Melis, one of the most beloved faces of Senorbì and Trexenta, will be held today at 4:30 pm in the parish church of Santa Barbara. There are many messages of condolence and shared memories , especially on social media, where many wanted to recount a moment experienced with Antonello , restoring the image of a person who left a true mark on the lives of many.
For many years, a municipal employee, especially in the registry office, Melis was a point of reference for citizens. In his work, as in his other roles, he maintained a trait that those who knew him remember well: the ability to welcome everyone with courtesy, always offering a kind word and a smile. A way of being that, over time, transformed daily relationships into genuine bonds.
Alongside work, football was one of his life's great passions . A die-hard Inter fan, he belonged to the Inter Club "Giacinto Facchetti" in Senorbì, but it was above all on the pitch, with the boys, that he expressed his deepest connection to the sport . Coach and manager of Fulgor Senorbì, he devoted much of his energy to the youth teams, an environment in which he brought skill, enthusiasm, and attention to the development of the boys. For him, coaching meant more than just teaching how to play football, but also instilling values and accompanying the youngest on a developmental journey. The sports club has asked the federation to observe a minute of silence during their teams' upcoming matches. A tribute to those who have contributed to the life of Fulgor with their constant presence and genuine passion.
In recent years, Melis had also intensified his social and cultural commitment, assuming the presidency of the University of the Third Age of Trexenta , where he brought the same spirit that had accompanied him in his work and sports: being there, making himself available, doing one's part. Perhaps this is the measure of the pain Senorbì is experiencing today.
Antonello Melis belonged to that category of people who end up being present in so many different moments of a country's life: in public offices, on the soccer fields, in cultural activities, in friendships built over time. Everyone remembers him from a different perspective, but the recurring trait is always the same: kindness, combined with a natural ability to connect with others.
