A driver distracted by the fire crashed into a firefighter's vehicle . It happened two days ago on the 131 dir in Selargius, at kilometer 4,900 toward Sestu, shortly after the speed camera, which had been deactivated for some time.

"Even though the right lane was closed to traffic," says Stefano Angius, captain of the Selargius barracellari company, " luckily his colleague wasn't facing away from him, otherwise he would have hit him . He tried to stop and have him move into the free lane, but the driver was looking toward the fire area; he didn't even brake."

The fire truck is temporarily out of service : "We have two others, but because of this accident—in case of emergency—we could operate with two teams instead of three." The driver admitted guilt, there were no injuries, and the truck will be repaired, but the bitterness of an incident that could have ended in tragedy remains. "We risk our lives every time we try to put out a fire," adds Angius, who issues a reprimand to motorists: "Pay maximum attention when you're driving; we can't risk being hit by moving vehicles."
