Selargius, the speed camera on the 131 dir triggers the political clash
According to the Democratic Party, the device is positioned "illegitimately". The Municipality replies: "Everything is in order"The umpteenth off-balance sheet debt linked to canceled fines and convictions for the Municipality of Selargius rekindles the political conflict over the speed camera of the 131 dir, activated almost three years ago in the Selargino section of the state road.
"The sentences of the justice of the peace continue to confirm that that speed camera is not positioned legitimately", attacked the municipal councilor of the Democratic Party Paola Maccioni, recalling the over 200 appeals presented by as many motorists and accepted so far with lots of canceled penalties.
"Everything is in order, we are winning several cases and we will shortly present all the documentation that confirms the legitimacy", replied the councilor for the budget Sandro Porqueddu.
The first appeals were flocked immediately after the activation in August 2020, all with the dispute of the distance from the first sign indicating the presence of the speed camera. Irregularity passed a month later, the Municipality and local police had assured. The latest practice landed among the benches of the classroom in Piazza Cellarium during the meeting of the municipal council. An off-balance sheet debt of just over 600 euros linked to two convictions - which add up to a few tens of thousands of euros already spent by the Municipality for lost causes and legal costs - one in 2022, the other referring to 2021: in first the judge accepted the motorist's appeal for failure to respect the distance required by law of the speed camera indication signal, in the second sentence for the Municipality instead the reason is the delay in notification of the report beyond ninety days.
