A vast stretch of sea that, close to the coast, stretches from the waters off Porto Corallo to those off Tertenia, and extends for kilometers offshore: this is the space where Leonardo Spa vessels will be operating from Wednesday until August 20th (the height of summer), engaged in "search operations and seabed remediation of military exercise debris." Because in the middle of it lies the Quirra firing range. And when they fire, missiles sometimes get lost. These must (should) be recovered before the new testing season begins on September 1st.
The requirements are reported in an ordinance from the Coast Guard, maritime district office of Arbatax, published in recent days.
The Ievoli Amber, the Celina II, the Silvio I, and the Silvio II will clear the sea. Meanwhile, ROVs, underwater drones, will be on the seabed, searching for bombs left on the seabed. The Italian Defense Staff had announced that, after more than a year, not even the two Aster 30 and Stinger missiles, which had been fired during a simulated Russian attack and were found missing, had been recovered.
The provision states that during summer operations, "naval units of any size, type, tonnage, or intended use in transit within the affected area must maintain a distance of no less than 1,000 meters, so as not to impede the Ievoli Amber's operations."
