There were moments of apprehension this afternoon in the historic center of Alghero, where a 54-year-old Roman tourist was struck by a sudden illness while walking along Via Gilbert Ferret.
The woman collapsed to the ground, hitting her head hard on the pavement. She lost consciousness on impact, immediately raising alarm among numerous passersby and local shopkeepers, who called for help.
Emergency medical services arrived on the scene and provided first aid to the tourist, stabilizing her before transferring her to the hospital.
Given the severity of her medical condition and the head trauma she sustained in the fall, air ambulance assistance was requested. The helicopter then rushed the 54-year-old to the hospital in Sassari, where she was handed over to paramedics for assessment and treatment.
The exceptional heat currently affecting Sardinia is also thought to be a possible cause of the illness, although medical tests will determine the cause of the sudden illness. The incident attracted the attention of numerous tourists and residents in the heart of the historic center, with Via Gilbert Ferret being affected by rescue operations for several minutes.
