Two of them were riding the same scooter, without helmets, insurance, or identification. But what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop turned into an assault on Bitti traffic police officers.

The incident occurred during the night between Thursday and Friday in the town of Bitti. Officers stopped the vehicle to report traffic violations, but when they explained they would proceed with writing a report, the driver, Andrei Manuel Magdici , a Romanian citizen who had been living in the town for about a year, went into a rage.

According to the reconstruction, he lunged at the police officers, attempting to hit them. His partner, instead of calming him down, allegedly encouraged the man during the attack.

Only with the arrival of a second patrol was the situation brought under control. The Romanian was arrested on charges of resisting a public officer, assault, and threats.

This morning, assisted by attorney Sebastiano Costa, he appeared before Nuoro Court Judge Rossana Balloi for the fast-track trial. The defendant agreed to a plea bargain and was released from prison.
