The African anticyclone Scipio arrives in Italy and brings the first real heat wave of this 2023 .
Fiery temperatures and lots of humidity. Throughout Italy but, above all, in Sardinia, where record values will be reached above 40 degrees .
Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of the site www.iLMeteo.it, informs that, starting today, «the thermometer will rise, first over Sardinia, Tuscany and Lazio and then over all of Italy» . Due to "a subtropical air mass that is rising from the Sahara, from Algeria towards the Mediterranean: flowing over the Mare Nostrum, it will acquire humidity and expand from Sardinia towards the center and then also over the rest of our country".
For four days we will stay "under the Camel's Hump" , as the high pressure promontory connected to the African anticyclone is called in the jargon. Different from that of the Azores: the latter brings a bearable heat, with peaks of 32-34 degrees and little humidity; what arrives today from the Sahara brings temperatures of 35-39 degrees and a lot of humidity .
In southwestern Sardinia, peaks of 43 degrees are expected . As of this afternoon , 40 degrees will be reached in Oristano, 37 in Carbonia, 34 in Sassari and Nuoro . Further increase tomorrow: 41 degrees in Oristano, 39 in Carbonia, 38 in Nuoro . In Cagliari, temperatures well above 30 degrees are expected especially for Thursday and Friday, as well as a lot of humidity.
