The autopsy on the body of William Manca, the 45-year-old man from Sassari who disappeared from his home last Saturday and was found dead yesterday afternoon in the Nurra countryside, between Monte d'Accoddi and the Truncu Reale industrial area, has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 16.

The Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office today appointed medical examiner Francesco Serra to perform the autopsy. The cause of death will be determined based on the results of the autopsy. His body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, so much so that his brother recognized him by the clothes he was wearing.

It was abandoned in the countryside, among the bushes a few meters from the provincial road 56. Two men who were looking for snails noticed it and immediately contacted 112.

According to what the man's relatives and friends told investigators, William Manca left his home in Sassari's historic center around 6:00 PM last Saturday. He said he had to meet friends in the hamlet of Campanedda.

The last people to see him alive were the managers and customers of a club in the hamlet of Bancali: he arrived there Saturday night in a car with two other men. He wasn't well, and the two friends he was with were also reportedly not fully alert. The three left after a few minutes. From that moment on, it's unknown what may have happened.

Manca's family, having received no further news from him , raised the alarm on Sunday, reporting him missing. On Monday, the Prefecture launched a search operation involving the fire department, the Carabinieri, the Sardinian Speleological Alpine Rescue Team, Barracelli, and volunteers. His body was found yesterday, marking the beginning of a new phase of the investigation to determine how and why William Manca died and with whom he spent the last hours of his life.
