The waste system went haywire obliges the Province of Sassari to intervene urgently . The closure of the Tergu center triggered the emergency in several centers in Northern Sardinia. And before waste management could become an environmental problem, the extraordinary administrator of the Province of Sassari, Pietro Fois, issued an order authorizing the modification of the instantaneous storage quantities of material that the Tergu plant will be able to accommodate.
The center, managed by the Obiettivo Zero company, will also allow storage on the squares adjacent to those already authorized , in compliance with the quantities indicated, in total 4 thousand and 600 tons of total material, which the municipalities will be able to deliver for a maximum period of 45 days. The measure was adopted urgently following the inspection carried out yesterday morning by the carabinieri of the Noe di Sassari at the packing center, which revealed the regularity of the documentation. An act taken in agreement with the Arpas Department of Sassari and Gallura, notwithstanding the authorizations of the Province which expired on 13 September last.
The first inconveniences had arisen in the municipalities of Sassari and Porto Torres , in particular in the port city it was necessary to suspend the collection of plastic only for domestic users, "service restored today" assures the Councilor for the Environment, Massimiliano Ledda . In Sassari, his colleague Antonello Sassu had reorganized the collection system by transferring the wet and dry to the Scala Erre landfill and the paper to Muros. "The knot of plastic remained, collected and kept inside the special vehicles waiting to unlock Tergu's authorization".
In the municipality of Alghero , the councilor for the environment, Andrea Montis, had set up the collection service using the storage sites at the Ungias service center and the Galboneddu municipal eco-center. A crisis triggered after the arson of the Gesam plant in Truncu Reale, on 6 August, in which most of the infrastructures, now released by the Public Prosecutor's Office, were destroyed causing the interruption of all activities within the plant. The urban centers of Sassari, Alghero and Porto Torres as well as the consortia of the Municipalities of Valledoria, Meilogu, Goceano, Coros and Anglona are left with nothing more than the search for other waste treatment sites. Objective Zero however showed management difficulties due to the insufficient frequency of withdrawals by the consortia of the separate waste collection chain, with consequent accumulation of the same waste in exit.
