Sassari's motoring scene recently celebrated a triumph at the national Automotoretrò show in Parma. The Italian Historic Automobile Club (AHCI) awarded the "Il Volante" Vintage Car and Motorcycle Club of Sassari with significant recognition at a ceremony dedicated to the most prestigious events of the past year. The award received was the ASI Solidarity Prize of the prestigious Vittorio Zanon Award. The latter was awarded for the "Scala di Giocca-Osilo" event, hailed by the national commission as one of the best in the Italian motoring scene. These tributes come as the club prepares to celebrate an eventful year marking the 60th anniversary of the ASI.
The foundation of "Il Volante" dates back thirty years, becoming a key reference point for Northern Sardinia. Led by president Vanda Casula, the club, in addition to collecting vehicles, works to protect and enhance the motoring heritage as a true historical testament. From technical consultancy to homologation sessions for the issuance of the Certificate of Historical Relevance and the "Targa Oro," the club carries out many activities. But the main one is the Scala di Giocca–Osilo, described by its members as the "mother of all races" in Sardinia. It has been running since 1924, and after celebrating its 100th anniversary, the event has now evolved into a regularity trial and cultural tourism event that traverses picturesque landscapes, starting from Piazza d'Italia in Sassari.
For enthusiasts, the next edition is already scheduled for May 23rd and 24th. Aside from races, the association, through ASI Solidale, promotes and organizes social initiatives such as the ASI Befana on January 6th, when donations are brought to hospitals and family homes, and blood donation days. Thanks also to its ongoing collaboration with the Municipality of Sassari, the club periodically transforms the city squares into open-air museums, educating the public about respecting the originality and historical memory of vintage vehicles.
