Emotions and popular participation were felt yesterday in Sassari for the procession of the Wayfarers' Guild . The evening procession departed from the Church of Sant'Agostino, the association's historic headquarters, and wound through the historic center, carrying the statue of Our Lady of the Good Way, patron saint of Wayfarers.
As per tradition , the religious event featured a touching moment of encounter in the Church of Sant'Apollinare, between the Marian symbol and the simulacrum of the Crucifix , which was damaged in the fire that struck the church in 1650 and later restored. The procession then continued its journey amidst crowds and the participation of all the other Sassari Guilds, confraternities, groups in traditional dress from Sardinia, and religious and civic representatives.
Yesterday morning, at the end of the Pontifical Mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Sassari, Monsignor Francesco Antonio Soddu, the rite of the Intregu took place with the exchange of the Flag and the installation of the new Major Obriere Alessandro Carta.
