The 52-year-old president of the Sorso Soccorso cooperative and the 41-year-old manager of a local senior living facility were charged with serious crimes. According to the Sassari Prosecutor's Office, between June and December 2018, the two were responsible for the crimes of abandonment of minors or incapacitated persons and the unauthorized practice of a profession.

The charges concerned the alleged lack of qualified personnel—such as doctors and nurses—to monitor the conditions of the residents, almost all of whom were dependent on their own resources. The facility employed only social and healthcare workers, and the prosecutor alleged that adequate supervision of the elderly was not ensured. The 41-year-old was also accused of preparing and sometimes administering medications despite not having nursing qualifications.

Prosecutor Antonio Piras had requested a sentence of one year and two months for both men, believing their charges had been proven. The defense attorneys, represented by Maria Grazia Sanna for the 52-year-old and Luca Sciaccaluga for the 41-year-old, had argued that the charges were groundless.

Today, in the Sassari court, Judge Valentina Nuvoli ordered the acquittal of both defendants with the formula "because the fact does not exist."
